Whether you’re a one-person operation or a growing business with a full team, we’re here to help. Get in touch and let’s talk about what we can do for you.

What If We Have...

We Have No Official IT Support

No provider, no contract, no idea what’s under the bonnet. You’re in more company than you’d think.

Nobody plans to end up here. It usually happens the way most things do in a growing business: someone set it all up years ago, it worked, and there was never a good week to sort it out properly. Now the laptops mostly behave, the email mostly arrives, and nobody is entirely sure what would happen if it didn’t. This page is about what that actually costs you, what to do first, and why it’s a far smaller job than it feels like.

The Problem

The honest version of “no official IT support” usually looks like this.

The person who set everything up has left, or was a friend of a friend, or was you at eleven o’clock one night three years ago. Nobody is completely certain who holds the admin passwords. Nobody can say for sure what software licences you’re paying for or whether anyone still uses them. There is a backup, probably. Nobody has ever tested restoring from it.

Nothing on that list is causing you a problem this morning. That’s exactly what makes it hard to prioritise.

The trouble is that the things which go wrong when nobody is looking after IT don’t arrive gently. They arrive as a compromised email account, a laptop that dies with the only copy of something on it, a supplier invoice that turns out to be fraudulent, or a customer asking a security question you can’t answer. And they arrive on a day you were already busy.

The Risk Isn't What's Broken. It's What Nobody Is Watching.

Without IT support you’re not just missing help when things break. You’re missing the person whose job it is to notice before they do.

Why this is a concern:

Every business without proper IT accumulates the same quiet debts: software that hasn’t been updated, accounts belonging to people who left, permissions granted broadly because it was quicker, protection that stops at antivirus. None of it announces itself. It simply sits there, widening, until something finds it.

Small businesses are targeted precisely because attackers assume nobody is watching. And when the worst happens, the cost is rarely the fix. It’s the days lost, the customers told, and increasingly the insurance claim declined because the basics weren’t in place.

Why it's important:

Getting from nothing to solid is not the big project people imagine. It’s a handful of things done once: someone who knows your setup and answers the phone, accounts and access under control, devices protected and kept current, and backup that’s been tested rather than assumed. After that, IT stops being a thing you quietly worry about.

Solutions

These are some of the things we do to help

Someone to Ring, Who Knows Your Setup

Unlimited support with no ticket caps and no per-incident charges, from a team who’ve taken the time to understand what you’re actually running. No hourly rate anxiety, no wondering whether a problem is worth reporting.

Protection That Actually Watches

Devices monitored, patched and protected, email secured against phishing and fraud, and multi-factor authentication switched on properly. The difference between hoping nothing happens and knowing if it does.

Backup You Could Rely On

Real backup of your files and your Microsoft 365 data, tested rather than assumed. Microsoft protects the service, not your content, which surprises almost everybody.

Not sure which one you need?

Two minutes, a handful of questions, and a straight answer – including if that answer is “you don’t need much”. No sales call at the end unless you ask for one.

Nobody should feel awkward about this. Most businesses we meet with no IT support aren't careless, they're busy, and it worked well enough for long enough that it never got to the top of the list. We've seen everything, we've fixed everything, and we've never once made somebody feel daft about what we found.

Where we'd suggest you start

For most businesses coming from no IT support at all, it's the Essential IT Support Service

When there’s been nobody looking after things, the first job isn’t a big security programme. It’s getting someone accountable, getting eyes on your devices, and getting the basics under control. Starter does exactly that: unlimited support with no ticket caps, plus device protection, monitoring and patching, so the things that quietly degrade stop quietly degrading.

It’s also the honest starting point financially. You’re not committing to a stack of tooling before anyone has looked at what you actually need, and you can move up the moment there’s a reason to.

When we’d suggest stepping up to Essential. If your Microsoft 365 is unmanaged, your email isn’t properly protected, or there’s no real backup of your data, Essential covers all three, and includes the Microsoft 365 Business Premium licence you’re very likely paying for separately today. For a lot of businesses in your position that turns out to be the right answer, but we’d rather look first than assume.

And if a customer or insurer is already asking about Cyber Essentials, Professional includes the certification and the strongest security we offer.

Honestly though, start with a look at what you’ve got. It takes about an hour, it costs nothing, and it tells us both which of these is actually right for you.

The Basics

The five things to sort first, in order.

Find out who holds the keys.

Admin access to your Microsoft 365, your domain and your website. If the honest answer is “an old supplier” or “we’re not sure”, that’s the first job, and it’s a conversation we have all the time.

Turn on multi-factor authentication

The single highest value thing you can do, usually free, and the first question your insurer will ask.

Find out what's actually backed up.

Not what you assume is backed up. Then test restoring something.

Get every device protected and patched.

Laptops leave the building, and antivirus alone stopped being enough a while ago.

Write down what you've got.

Devices, licences, accounts, who can reach what. Unglamorous, and the thing that makes everything afterwards easier.

What you don't need to worry about yet.

A server, an IT hire, or an enterprise security stack. We’ll tell you when that changes, and not before.

What getting set up actually looks like

There’s no provider to move away from, so this is less a migration than a tidy up. Most of it happens in the background.

01

An hour looking at what you've got.

Devices, licences, accounts, backups, and where the gaps are. You get the findings in writing whether or not you go any further, and there’s no obligation attached.

02

We chase down the access.

Getting admin rights back from an old supplier, a previous freelancer, or somebody’s personal Microsoft account is the awkward bit, and it’s our job rather than yours. It’s rarely as difficult as people fear.

03

We put the foundations in.

Security, monitoring, patching and backup, set up while you carry on working. No weekend outage, no day where nobody can do anything.

04

Then you've got a team.

Unlimited support, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, with out of hours cover available by arrangement. And someone whose job it is to notice things before you do.

Questions we’re asked by businesses in your position

We’ve compiled the questions we’re asked most often by businesses at this stage. If yours isn’t here, please get in touch.

Not at all, and it’s the most common starting point there is. Working out what you’ve got is the first thing we do, and it’s included in the initial look rather than charged as a project.

Very familiar. There are established routes to recover ownership of a Microsoft 365 tenant, a domain and a website, and we handle that process for you. It’s usually a matter of paperwork and patience rather than anything dramatic.

No. We’ve seen every version of this and none of it shocks us. You’ll get a plain, honest list of what we found and what it would take to fix, with the urgent things marked as urgent. Nobody is going to make you feel foolish for being busy.

That’s a fair question and sometimes the answer is that you don’t need to yet. But the reason most people call us is that something changed: a scare, a customer asking security questions, an insurance renewal, someone leaving, or simply growing past the point where one person can hold it all in their head. If none of that applies, we’ll say so.

We don’t work to fixed SLA response times, and that’s deliberate. A service level agreement treats every ticket as a clock: a major outage and a slow printer both get whatever response time somebody wrote into a contract. We work on priority instead. If your issue is urgent, it’s treated as urgent, straight away. If it isn’t, it gets done properly rather than rushed to hit a target.

No. You can take any package on a rolling monthly term. Longer terms carry a discount, 5% at 12 months, 10% at 24 and 20% at 36 on IT support, but that’s your choice, not a condition.

Almost certainly not. Pricing is per user, so a team of three pays for three, and some of our customers are smaller than that. And if we think you’d be better served spending nothing for another six months, we’ll tell you.

That’s what On-Demand is for, no contract, no commitment. It isn’t the cheapest way to run a business long term, but it’s honest, and sometimes it’s the right answer.

Start with an hour

We look after businesses across Bristol, Bath, Cheltenham, Gloucester, Somerset and Swindon, with remote support anywhere in the UK, and we’re an NCSC Assured Service Provider, Cyber Essentials Plus certified, and ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 accredited.

The first step isn’t a contract, it’s a conversation and a look at what you’ve got. You’ll come away knowing what’s fine, what’s urgent and what it would cost to fix, whether or not you ever work with us.

Reassuring Availability

There is nothing more annoying than an IT glitch that stops you working efficiently. However, knowing you have access to immediate attention to the glitch and a solution to it, is very reassuring and that is provided by We Do Your IT. We have so appreciated the availability and response given by the team at We Do Your IT, enabling us to remain a productive firm.
